The Flesh & Bone of Earthlings

As part of the graduating cohort of artists from the University of Toronto’s Daniel’s Faculty Visual Studies program, I participated in putting together a final thesis exhibition. Our show explored themes of material, environment, and embodied experience. My contribution to the exhibition was a sculptural installation that examines the matter of bodies, both human and nonhuman, and how they meet, shift, carry memory, and circulate through the scales of the universe.

The project uses microscopic photography of found organic material and a mixed-media assemblage of resin and copper to capture and present glimpses of the quiet architectures that shape the world around us. These small fragments gather into a large, immersive field of meaning, asking viewers to slow down and notice the small parts of the large systems they’re already part of.

It’s a project based upon themes of connection, of shifting perspective, of embodied noticing.
